The Wimbledon App is a source of all the latest information from the championship, from the draw, to the order of play to the latest live scores, it’s a great way to stay in touch with latest updates.

One very interesting feature of the App is the Tweets function which collates the tweets of all those involved in Wimbledon into 1 timeline, for those who enjoy Social Networking this is a great tool which show of the true potential of Twitter.
The App also provides access to a wealth of multimedia resources, video highlights, photos and live audio commentary from Wimbledon Radio are all included providing you with everything you need to keep in touch with what is happening in the tournament.

For those interested in Wimbledon this is a must download, and can be found by searching in the App Store.

How to Support Comic Relief with the iPhone

Comic Relief and it’s associated Red Nose Day has become a successful long standing tradition, where the most popular comedians in the country give their time free of charge to help raise money for charity, and now you can join in the fun with the free Red Nose Day app on the iPhone.

All good so far but it gets better as the app comes with a free and very entertaining game called Pick-A-Nose.

The goal of Pick-A-Nose is to tap as many red noses that pop up through on screen holes as possible, with out tapping any celebrities, it starts easy but the difficulty increases as you reach new levels. The Games is fun, easy to play and free.

New Version of the Telegraph iPhone App Launched

In this Post I mentioned that the Telegraph iPhone App was one of my favourite methods of keeping up to date with the latest news.

A few of you noticed that the Telegraph App had disappeared from the App store for a couple of days, this is because they have just launched a new version of the App and its available for download now.

The new version of the App has a streamlined interface which you can customise by selecting which topics you have displayed  on your screen, although the App does seem to be a little slower then the old App at times.

The Telegraph app is still the best newspaper style app for the iPhone.

4 Top Ways of Keeping up to Date with the Latest News on the iPhone

With its always on Internet connection, the iPhone is a great tool for keeping up to date with all the latest news and current affairs, and here are 4 top ways of receiving the latest information.

1) Sky News App

The Sky News App presents upto date news to your iPhone, using a streamline and attractive Interface. Categories run along the top of the interface and are switched between with a touch, and the news articles in each category appear with a thumbnail picture down the screen, it’s a system which works very well.

Sky do multimedia presentation very well and for a lot of the articles there is an accompanying video news report from the Sky News Room. There is also a Live Stream of the Sky News Channel available by pressing the Live TV icon at the bottom of the screen.

Discussion Forums and Social Media Tools are also provided for sharing your option on your favourite stories. With Sky you know what you are getting, the latest well presented news, great multimedia, and real time access to a dedicated TV News Channel

2) BBC News App

The BBC is one of the longest established news providers and are well known and trusted for providing  the latest news from around the world thanks to their army of Journalists around  the world. They also have an agenda for adopting technology and using it very well (e.g. their fantastic iPlayer service), so it’s no surprise to see that they have their own iPhone App.

The BBC News app presents the news in more of a Magazine formatted interface then that of the Sky News App, with the categories presented vertically down the screen with the articles in each category running from left to right on a scrolling time line. I find that the interface tends to be a little more fiddly and slower to use then the Sky Interface but the content of the articles is on par with Sky, and occasionally offer different slants or emphasis on news story’s. Multimedia is used well with Video reports being used were appropriate and a live feed is provided to the BBC news Channel.

Although the BBC news App may lack a bit of the visual shine of the Sky News App, it’s a great source of news, and compliments the Sky App wonderfully.

3) The Telegraph Mobile App

The Telegraph is a well known News Paper in the UK, and they were one of the first British News Papers to provide a electronic service to mobile readers.

Offering highly detailed and in depth articles (like the kind you would read in a printed news paper) the Telegraph App provides a good read for those times when you have a little longer to absorb the news.

The App Interface is simple with the Categories and the top few articles in each Category running from top and bottom on screen, and you can see more articles in each category by clicking on the category name. The telegraph doesn’t match the BBC or Sky Apps for multimedia although it does provide a nice photo roll facility where you can see collections of outstanding photographs from  the telegraphs archive, useful tools to share articles using Social media are also provided.

The Telegraph App provides a great option for those wanting to read about the news, and a new version of the App is due shortly.

4) TV Catchup Website

I’ve written about the TV Catchup Website in a previous article describing how you can watch live TV on your Mobile Phone, and it provides a great alternative for those wanting to watch rather the read about the news or for those not wanting to install apps.

By registering with the TV Catchup Website you get free access to a number of live TV channels including BBC News, Sky News & BBC Parliament, providing the perfect way of watching the latest news as it unfolds. The video quality tends to be slightly lower then the dedicated apps, but may require less bandwidth as it works well over 3G networks.

In summary by using any or all of the the above tools will provide you with the latest uptodate news and opinion straight to your iPhone
