Three with not charge extra for LTE in the UK

Real Tech Blog have posted an article reporting that Three will not be charging extra for access to their forthcoming LTE Network

Three already offer a high speed DC-HSPDA network as part of their Ultrafast Internet  which is available to customers who have compatible handsets without any additional charge to their data plan, and today Three have announced that their forthcoming LTE network will be included in Ultrafast Internet.

No extra changes, no special plans, if your device is compatible it will automatically use the best network type available. This is will be of interest to anyone who is looking to buy an LTE iPhone and plan this year.

Currently LTE plans from other Networks in the UK are expensive and offer limited Data allowances. With Three, depending on your plan, you can be tethering with unlimited data on LTE without any extra cost.

If you are in the UK and thinking about a new LTE iPhone then make sure you consider Three’s Plans.

AppBlaster a Fun Gun Peripheral for the iPhone

The iPhone has had many third party peripherals released for it, some useful some not, but which category does the AppBlaster from Apptoyz fall into? Is it a waste of money of a fun tool for iPhone gamers?
The AppBlaster is a well designed and well built plastic double triggered gun with a cradle for your iPhone to sit in a landscape orientation on top of the device. Each trigger activates a separate switch in front of the iPhone which touches the screen with conductive connectors which the iPhone registers as an on screen touch.

The AppBlaster

This provides a mechanism to simulate a gun system for your iPhone with the handset detecting movement and providing a window on the action, whilst physically being able to hold a physical gun increases the level of interaction for the gamer. Does it work well in practice? While it obviously depends on the App the results can be engaging.
Several Apps are available in the App Store which are compatible with the AppBlaster varying in cost but in this article we are going to look at 3, Alien Attack, Duck Hunter & Marine Sharp Shooter.

Shoot the Aliens

Alien Attack is heavily publicised on the packaging and is an example of how the iPhone technology can be utilised with the AppBlaster to provide an engaging gaming experience. Alien Attack in an augmented reality game, projecting computer generated aliens over the real world environment captured with the iPhones camera. A radar on the bottom of the screen shows the distance and the direction of the alien targets and as you physically move around and change the direction and angle of the gun the on screen environment changes appropriately. Alien Attack may not be the most complex game in the App Store but its fun in short doses and shows the potential of the hardware.

Fantastic Fun in Duck Hunters

Duck Hunter is a take on the classic Duck Hunt lightgun style game, the premise is simple, ducks fly from one side of the screen to the other and you shoot as many as you can as the game gets steadily more difficult. The cartoon style graphics add to the amusement and the occasional upgrade to a machine gun provides a brief alternative and change in pace. The game wouldn’t work very well with just a touch screen but with the addition of the AppBlaster the games rises to a new level and becomes a great deal of fun and a great party game.

Sharp Shooting Action

Marine SharpShooter is a much more serious game and one that requires much more subtlety. Playing the part of a sniper you are set missions to take out enemies from a distance, each scene requires you to shoot several enemies through a telescopic sight, due to the magnification each movement is magnified several times but its impressive how the iPhone can detect very small movements allowing you to make small alterations to your aim. Its these small movements and enemies that shoot back after they become aware of you which makes the game very atmospheric, add in hostage rescue elements and the game play becomes very tense and exciting.

In conclusion many will mistakenly see the AppBlaster as a novelty or gimmick but with the right App it can become a genuinely engaging gaming peripheral.

A Look at Clip on Camera Lenses with the Eye Scope Zoom Lens for the iPhone

The iPhone has a wonderful camera for a mobile device, particularly the iPhone 4s with it’s 8 mega pixel camera and impressive sensor. With it’s easy to use interface the iPhone has put easy but powerful photography into everyone’s reach.

Whilst it is a fantastic all round camera the iPhone lacks a hardware zoom option, and the included optical zoo loses a lot of shot clarity, which might make it inappropriate for taking detailed pictures of objects that are a distance away. To try and resolve this problem a number of third party clip on zoom lenses have been released, and to see the quality of results I’ve tested the Eye Scope Zoom Lens.

The Eye Scope Zoom Lens for iPhone

The Eye Scope Zoom Lens comes with a special phone case with a screw connector which allows you to attach the lens over the iPhones camera. The lens has a focus wheel to allow you to fine tune your pictures and it can take a while to set your photos so don’t expect to point and shoot anymore but with a little time you can get impressive results.

The Results can be very Impressive

The lens magnifies the image by 8x and unlike digital magnification keeps must of the detail intact, although if you are recording video you need to be aware that every hand movement is also magnified 8x, so you really need to keep the iPhone still and steady.
The package also comes with a tripod grip which comes complete with a standard tripod adapter which is incredibly handy.

With and With out the Lens

The clip on camera kits are incredibly good value at about £15 and provides a useful tool for those into their photography and need to take photos at distance.

How the iPhone can help with Intravenous Infusion therapies

We carry smartphones with us everywhere we go, and as Apps become more sophisticated they are becoming genuinely useful and life improving tools, it’s easy to see why more specific and dedicated professional tools  are becoming available and here’s a great example, the Intravenous Infusion Controller App.

The Intravenous Infusion Controller App (AKA IV Therapy Helper) can be used by those who do IV therapies to set and check the flow rates during the IV Therapy.

With the app complex manual calculations can be bypassed and the App can directly enter and set various IV orders, such as the flow rate (mL/hr), the drip rate (drops/min), or the total volume (mL) and time(hr, min).

With a comprehensive feature set the Intravenous Infusion Controller App can set flow rates easily and exactly, with the drip time interval displayed on screen along with audio cues to alert you when the treatment time is coming to it’s conclusion.

Estimated IV injection times are calculated helping plan treatments and to help ensure the  administration of the proper IV flow rate.

With this App the iPhone becomes easily portable device that can support their ability to determine the correct metrics  when it comes to the setting, monitoring and managing of IV flow rates.

If you require an App to assist you with IV flow rates then the Intravenous Infusion Controller App can be found in the Apple App Store or by clicking here.

How to Jailbreak the iPhone

Jail breaking the iPhone and the Cydia market place is a slightly controversial subject and one which iPhone-experience.com has not covered until now.
As standard the only way to install Apps on your iPhone is through Apples App Store, this brings several advantages, every App has to meet Apples high quality standards and term and conditions therefore the quality of Available Apps is very high, but it also means that many Apps never get released to iPhone users and this includes many Apps which you may find useful eg Emulators & WIFI tethering Apps.

There is an alternative source of iPhone Apps but to get them you need to perform a procedure called Jailbreaking on your iPhone.
Before you perform the Jailbreaking procedure it is advised that you back up your iPhone with iTunes. You can undo the jailbreaking procedure by restoring your device to factory setting.

To perform a Jailbreak on your iPhone:
1) Open the Safari Web browser on your iPhone.
2) Navigate to http://www.jailbreakme.com

3) Click on the Free button
4) Click on on the Install button.

After a very short break your iPhone will be Jailbroken and the Cydia app will be visible on your iPhones desktop.

Cydia works in a similar way to the Official AppStore and can be used to install some really useful Apps.
