Which is better FIFA or Pro Evo Soccer on the iPhone
FIFA and Pro Evo have been popular and competing football games on many formats for many years, each trying to out do the other. Both games are now available on the iPhone so I thought I would run through how they compare on the format.
Firstly both games are very good, offering a great football experience on the iPhone but there are differences in the games
Graphics and Presentation
EA Sports have traditionally been fantastic at presenting their software in a fantastic way and FIFA on the iPhone is no exception, with TV style presentation, neat menus, solid graphics and characters and smooth animation, it’s certainly one of the best looking sports games on the iPhone.

In game Pro Evo looks good and although slightly behind FIFA in looks, it’s animation remains smooth throughout the game, although player close ups don’t hold up as well and start to look a bit bland. Out side of the game Pro Evo doesn’t compare well to FIFA with less polished graphics and bland menus which are functional but unappealing.
Playability
Each game trys to simplify the control system as much as possible, and as default both games offer a virtual joypad and buttons on screen.
FIFA has a fixed location joypad and 3 context sensitive virtual buttons, the buttons display their current functionality which helps learning how to play the game.
Pro Evo’s virtual stick centres around your thumb when you touch the screen and offers 2 fixed location virtual buttons, which provide the interface to the game. Unlike FIFA there is no onscreen description of the buttons functionality so you need to learn how to play the game, Pro Evo is easy to learn but difficult to master.
By default given the nature of the iPhones screen and the use of virtual buttons you can sometimes hit the wrong on screen button, both games try and minimise this and you do get better with practice, but to help improve matters Pro Evo includes a second control system designed for the iPhones touch screen. You’ll need to select this method from the options screen but it replaces the virtual buttons with the use of short presses and long presses to set power, this option takes a while to get used to but works very well after you get used to it.
Pro Evo is a universal app and will also run on the iPad, the larger screen makes the virtual buttons much more usable and enjoyable to use.
The style of football offered by the 2 games is slightly different, Pro Evo offers a more realistic style of football and promotes passing flowing football where as FIFA offers a more dramatic and exciting style of game. Depending on how serious you are on your beautiful football will dictate which game style you prefer.

Game Options
FIFA far and away offers the most in game options, almost matching it’s home game consoles cousins, with many teams from many counties Which can play in many different competitions. FIFA also has full licensing so all the real players and team names are present. Where as Pro Evo has a very limited team and competition choice and many player and team names have had to be changed.
If you want to make sure that your favourite team is included in the game then you will need to choose FIFA.
In conclusion most casual players will enjoy the higher detailed and Fun FIFA more then Pro Evo but if you enjoyable more serious form of football or also want to play on the iPad without paying extra then Pro Evo will suit you better.
