How to use your iPhone as a WiFi hotspot
Apple have announced the iPhone 5
With the release of iOS 4.3 the iPhone has gained extra functionality, one key element of which is the Personal Hotspot functionality.
The Personal Hotspot option provides the option to turn your iPhone into a WiFi hotspot and share your phones 3G mobile data connection with other Wifi enabled devices, eg your laptop, PSP, iPad etc. It also provides the option to connect you iphone to you computer using bluetooth or USB for Internet access.
Obviously this is a really useful function which many iPhone users will appreciate.
To Activate the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone.
- Firstly make sure that your iPhone is using the latest version of the iOS operating system, you can check this using iTunes.
- Go to the settings App and select the Personal Hotspot option.
- From the Personal Hotspot screen you can activate the hotspot and set the wifi Hotspot
- You will then be able to see you iPhone from your devices WiFi network devices connection.
A word of Warning
Several Mobile Networks exclude using your iPhone as a Modem from your monthly data allowance and may charge you extra for using this facility, if you are in any doubt over data charges you should contact your Network provider.

Are you sure this works for the psp? afaik the portable only supports up to wpa, while the hotspot set up with the iphone uses wpa2. If you know how to change that, please let me know. cheers.

Any idea if there is a current way to use the Iphone as a modem?

Hi it should be.
A number of people are reporting that after upgrading
to the latest version of iOS the option is missing.
Is the option in settings, general, network?

It’s in “Settings”- “General”- “Cellular”- ‘Set up personal Hotspot” but unfortunately once you try to set it up, it directs you to your cellular provider for changes to your account.
